  3. DAS: Direct Attached Storage: Direct-attached storage (DAS) is a type of computer data storage that uses its own power source, often a hard drive, to store and retrieve data without involving any other devices or computers. DAS devices connect directly to the computer’s motherboard via an interface such as the Serial ATA bus or USB.

iSCSI: Internet SCSI-over-LAN : The Internet SCSI-over-LAN (iSCSI) protocol is a standard for connecting dissimilar networks, such as the LAN and the internet. It is often used to share storage devices on the LAN over a high speed network without any physical connections.

Storage Networking Implementation

Storage networking implementation is the process of integrating storage networks with the existing network infrastructure.

Storage networking implementation can be done in two ways:

  1. Storage networks are integrated with LANs and SANs by using Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) or Converged Enhanced Ethernet (CEE).
  2. Storage networks are integrated with WANs by using a combination of IP-based storage protocols such as iSCSI, Fibre Channel over IP (FCIP), or Metro Ethernet.

Storage networks are commonly used for data replication and disaster recovery. They also provide high availability for applications that use large amounts of data, such as databases and virtualization environments. A storage network is implemented as a series of Fibre Channel switches that provide connectivity to multiple storage devices and hosts.
